Ivy League schools has its perks but they all do the job of being a dentist in the US. I think it would matter more for continued education not general practice. Ivy leagues can go up to 450k whereas a non ivy league is 250k, interest here is a lot, balancing paying off loans and mortgage can leave you with almost nothing! Just a thought for anyone debating this!

I think people are focusing on the wrong point of the post. The very first thing I mentioned was choosing the cheaper option. And one of the schools I mentioned is UMich which costs significantly less than even 250k which you mentioned. Everyone has their own priorities, take whichever advice resonates with you!

Not all Ivy Leagues are expensive, if you go and check. Also, these are some of the top programs that will help you gain residencies and make your journey even after DDS much easier with their association. No one has to follow this, but here in the US, school names do matter a lot especially if they’re top tier

My friend has been in a similar position so they weighed all the pros and cons of both. Honestly, UCLA had way more pros. The privilege of being associated with UC and UCLA has one of the most prestigious names in dental schools, it’s nearly considered an IVY league. Then another hugee pro was the cheaper cost. It seems like a few ten thousands right now but once it accumulates interest, shit gets real. In this process you may have heard, always go for the cheaper option. Plus there are far more residency opportunities if you’re in UCLA. More research opportunities in UCLA too. Plus UCLA has a more influential representation in the dental associations like CDA etc. I think the decision is pretty clear tbh
