Family Christmas Trip to Europe - Forward Planning
Hey Guys!
My wife and I and our daughter (40YOM, 40YOF, and a then 9YOF) are hoping to do Christmas in Europe from Australia at the end of 2027.
I'm a former travel agent but been out of the game for a while. I'm trying to plan an itinerary at the moment so I can get some fairly accurate costing so we can budget accordingly.
Our main hopes are
White Christmas!
Christmas Markets
Family activities
nice architecture, food, etc
Our kid will be 9 so a mix of culture / museums and playing / fun / activities etc is important. We can't just be wine and christmas markets EVERY DAY.
My current thought was getting into Europe (stopover in asia on the way over) and flying into Munich around the 11th of December, and then doing the following
Munich 4-5 nights - seeing the city, neuschwanstein, day trips, maybe a day trip to innsbruck ?
Train to Freiburg- 4 ish? nights. Day trip to strasbourg, see the city, black forest, etc.
Train to somewhere in switzerland- Possibly zurich? Again 4ish nights until the 24th and again do day trips see markets etc.
Travel to Zermatt and stay in some lovely resort. We aren't skiing but just want to basically do our best to guarantee a white christmas or at least snow being around. Stay here night of the 24th and 25th.
Leave on the 26th, our next idea was to go to paris but I think Zermatt to Paris via Train would be kinda crazy so need to find somewhere to stop for a night or two in between.
After that I'm pretty set we'll chill in Paris before stopping home via Hong Kong.
ANYWAY my main concern is ensuring we are hitting up places that our kid will not get bored in. Places with parks, playgrounds, museums, play centres or things an 8-9 year old will enjoy. Christmas Markets that are exciting, things like that.
Is there any places that I am overlooking or maybe spending too much time in? I'm conscious of not wanting to just put 2 nights in each place as maybe we need time as a family to just have a 'chill' day also.
Or any great family activities / places/ things to do would be appreciated. Or if I'm barking up the wrong tree with Zermatt let me know - basically just snow and on christmas and I'm happy!
Thanks all :)
