388 is an ex-marine.

I have seen a lot of people saying that 388 is faking being a marine both on here and tiktok, and I just don't understand why they would make his character like that. It wouldn't bring anything to the story and the only person who would care about him being a marine is his dad but he's not even in the games.

Reasons why I think he is an ex-marine :

First, 388 has 4 older sisters which made him more feminine. He said that because of this, his dad told him to be a marine. He probably didn't want to be one and hated his time there and came back with trauma. The scene, where Jungbae asks him about his dad being in the army and 388 dodges the question, is more about him having a bad relationship with his dad and not wanting to talk about him rather them him knowing nothing about marines.

Second, I feel like overall a lot of people disregard his relationship with his father even thought it seems obvious that he was in some way abused by him. He flinches not only at gunshots but also when someone close to him makes an abrupt move.

Then, every scene we see of him and there is a gunshot, he looks highly distressed and hides his face or ears. He is clearly deeply traumatised by his time in the army and is most likely overstimulated by the sounds.

Finally, this whole debate really bothers me as his presence is here as a critic to the army and toxic masculinity and trying to act as if his reaction didn't make sense and that therefore he is lying is very disappointing. He is simply scared and tries to hide behind a facade to look tough, and if you pay more attention to him throughout the episodes it's rather easy to understand.

Also, this whole argument proves that some people still think that men can't be vulnerable and scared. 388 has a human reaction to the violence and nothing more and it doesn't make him less of a marine or of a man.

 Additionaly, Korean men are obligated to do their military service, so 388 was in the army at some point. From my knowledge, it leaves a number of them deeply traumatised and some try really hard to escape it. No matter what you think, he has a past with the military.
