Explain like I’m five alcohol’s effect on blood sugar??

I would call myself a moderate drinker, I’ve been cutting back a lot lately as I’ve been focusing on my health and eating Whole Foods. I see on this app a lot that people mention needing to cut out alcohol to manage prediabetes. I’ve been wearing the stelo CGM and notice that when I drink even a glass or two of wine my blood sugar goes down, and if I eat carbs or dessert after drinking I have very little if any spike. Surely this is too good to be true?? What’s going on in my body that the alcohol is masking the spike? Or is this actually a “hack” to keep blood sugar low when I do want to eat a plate of pasta?? I’m having a hard time understanding
