HELP: Liquid clay?

So I’m totally new to this and have my first set of polymer clay on its way. As I’m looking more into this I keep hearing about liquid clay. I don’t plan on making anything too fancy yet, but do I need it? When and what do you use it for anyways? Can I stick different parts of clay together without it? Any advice would help!
