The Bureaucrat is back with some random assortment thoughts

Hello all, since its Sunday and I got some free time (at last) I thought that it will be worth sharing some random assortment thoughts about Pakistan and Pakistanis.

Please keep in mind that i am not taking any sides. I am only explaining how things work.

1- Many people think that Bureaucrats don't work at all. In reality, I hardly have a 8 hour work day. Same is the true for 90% of bureaucrats. During field postings, you are on duty 24/7.

2- During my AMA I noticed many questions were about bureaucracy being incompetent. What you need to understand is that bureaucracy or any other institution is the reflection of the society. They are not different from society. State is the soul of man enlarged under the microscope of history. Bureaucracy comes from society. How can it be any different. 90% of you abusing us will latch on to power and money if given a chance.

3- People ask why don't the juniors defy the order of higher ups. You all need to understand that there is a strict chain of command that needs to be there in order to implement every order (right or wrong) at the ground level. If it isn't there, the whole state will crumble faster than the house of cards and there will be anarchy. Agar kal ko trump aa jata ha America main or wo koi galt order deta ha to it will be acted upon no matter what.

4- State is a complex machine with a lot of working parts (often redundant). From the outside, it may appear as monolithic but it is as complex as it can get. People like me are just a cog in the machine.

5- Military Establishment (Top brass of Army + Agencies) holds the most power in the country. But it is not like that only they hold power. There is a quote in Game of Thrones TV show that "Power resides where men believe it resides". Same is the case in Pakistan. In reality, religious elite is also considerably powerful. (Look how they coerced incumbent CJP to change the decision of Mubarak Sani Case). Judiciary also has considerable power (That is why ME is working hard to reign in judiciary). There are a lot of other factions as well. Chuk kay to dikhain NaMaloom Afrad Maulana Fazl ur Rehman ko. They can't. That is the limit to their power.

6- Imran was ousted solely because of the power hunger of Gen. Bajwa. Nothing else. Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely. COAS position is the most powerful position. It corrupts the mind of the incumbent.

7- Cracks in ME estab. appear only when there is a changing of COAS. That is the time to reign in ME. Look how Bajwa was doing tarlay of Shahbaz (whom he himself brought in) not to make Asim Munir COAS.

8- It is not that easy to reduce the influence of Military in the country. It is weaved into our socio-economic fabric through institutions like Fauji Foundations, Cantonments etc. There needs to be a comprehensive de militrification of the society.

9- Corruption is not the main issue of the country. It is militray's political misadventures. Moral corruption comes second. Financial corruption stands at third.

10- The ultimate objective of the state is to prevenet anarchy in the society and maintain order. Fasad fil arz is punisable by death in Islam. It will use what ever means necessary to achieve this.

11- If I were the PM of Pak, I would abolish the post of COAS. This unelected post holds too much power and attention. But before doing that, I would oust 5 Chiefs in succession just to establish that It is we 'the civilians' who rule over this country. Military should be headed by the committee of corps commanders with their chairperson being first among the equals decided on rotational basis. No one person should have that much power without any check and balance.
