“Where are you from?”

To those of foreign ethnicities but who were born and raised in london, how do you respond to this question?

From what I’ve noticed, whenever I ask someone in london where they’re from they always reply by stating the country they’re ethnically from, (eg Turkey, Nigeria, Hong Kong) with a thick london accent.

When I used to live up north in Leeds, people would just say they’re local ie British, regardless of their foreign ethnic background.

This is just a casual observation I’ve picked up on, not trying to stir up any racial debate.
