MARATHI IMPOSITION OR HINDU IMPOSITION??

Recently, I’ve been hearing a lot about Marathi news. They seem to have this tendency to criticize North Indians for not speaking Marathi, especially laborers and marginalized people from UP and Bihar. They even harass Muslims, imposing their language forcefully.

However, these same people show double standards when their party chief meets businessmen or superstars who speak Hindi. In those situations, they adopt a mild, subservient approach.

This suggests that their frustration is directed only at poor people, and it has little to do with Marathi identity. In fact, the Marathi language itself has been hijacked by Hindu identity politics. Marathi TV news and popular culture promote the idea of Marathi as a Hindu language, possibly to cater to the majority for profit, considering Maharashtra is a capitalist hub.

Even the great leaders who fought for the Marathi language while establishing Maharashtra were, in some cases, non-Hindus. But systematically, their contributions are undermined.

So, parties like MNS, Shiv Sena, and others that claim to fight for the Marathi language are misguided. It's foolish to expect them to genuinely care about the language. In the name of Marathi, they are pushing Hinduism. This takes us back to the days of casteism and oppression.

Either make Marathi a religiously neutral language or don’t force your ideology on us.
