Should I purchase a firearm?

Hey all. With the state of the country (USA) I’ve been seriously weighing getting trained and purchasing a firearm.

I was raised in a strict anti-gun, anti-violence household by self-employed music teachers, so it’s safe to say I don’t know shit about them outside video games. And I worry that I’m buying into the fearmongering by even considering it.

My wife is all for it - she was raised in a more rural area and knows her way around firearms. But me personally, I’m a lot more conflicted.

Anybody else that was on the fence have any thoughts? Am I buying into the fearmongering, or is this worth looking into more seriously? If I do decide to pull the trigger (so to speak), outside of getting trained/knowing laws and rights/maintenance, what should I study up on?
