my doggo suddenly is going after my cat?

hello all! this post may be pointless as i think it just has to do with prey drive, but i still thought i would put it out there for some insight. my dog meik (just over a year old) has grown up with the family cat lu (who’s 12) since we got her a year ago. there’s never been any problems with them, if anything meik sometimes chases her when she moves too fast, but other than that they’re buddies. they often cuddle in my bed when they’re supervised. this usually starts with my kitty already being in bed and then my dog joining her..

now lately, instead of just chasing when my cat does move (she’s not very active, so it’s not often) she’s started nipping and pouncing at her. she gets separated very fast when this happens cause when my cat retaliates with her claws it only makes her want to nip more. is there any reason this could’ve suddenly gotten worse? or any way i could improve their relationship? ideally i wish they could just live in harmony together but i know at the end of the day not all cats and dogs get along. photo of them below :)
