Did you ever notice this?

The show actually told us from the start about how much of an abusive person Eddy's Brother really was long before he was ever on-screen:

In the season one episode "Fool On The Ed" Eddy mentions his brother taught him to make the El Mongo Stinkbomb "before he went away". Not "moved away", "went away" like he got kicked out by Eddy's parents.

Season two's "Ed in a Halfshell" Eddy mentions how his brother "taught" him to scam: by physically abusing him when he messed up.

Season three's "Ed Pass it On" Eddy brags about his brother coming home and when Jimmy and Sarah pretend to be him, Eddy is terrified of "him".

In "O-Ed Eleven" Eddy's brother's room is completely walled off, like their parents wanted him gone and to never come back. Then when a trophy gets broken, Eddy's expression is pure and simple TERROR, like he's reliving a beating his brother gave him from something similar.

Season four's "An Ed is Born" Eddy remarks "No more beating up little Eddy eh big brother?" Plus the fact he sent Eddy a big box of baby supplies, while on the surface it looks like something a big brother would do to tease his younger sibling; in retrospect it's clear it was him being a dick.

Put it all together and one realizes that Danny Antonucci planned for this way before the Big Picture Show was made.
