steering wheel controls cracking?

im not entirely understanding how this happened. i live in socal and im wondering if the heat may have a part in this. am i smashing the buttons too hard lol? is it actually cracking or is it just this adhesive material separating? has this happened to anybody else? anybody have advice or solution to this? functionality hasnt been affected, but i fear that it may soon.
