Broken Windshields in the USA

Simple question, it seems like having a cracked windshield in the US is normal? Based entirely on videos I see, both "home video" and produced YouTube shows. Anything from 1200 dollar civics up to 300k modified or super cars, cracked Windshields.

So is this actually the case? And if so, why?

For context I come from a country where it's illegal to have a cracked or severely chipped windscreen, police will ticket you if seen or else it gets picked up in our annual safety inspections. If you have insurance you can have an option for free glass replacement, that's front rear or side glazing for only for circa 30usd Per year.
