I did the math, and it sucks
I've been unemployed for six months. Thankfully, my wife and I have some savings, but it's been difficult as you can imagine. I went to the trouble of calculating the cost of living for our just rent/food/utilities in our HCOL city (where my wife's job requires her to be) and looked at what unemployment and her salary accounted for:
The difference is -$2500 a month just for these essentials.
I am not including luxuries like Netflix, that's just the food we cook and the price to live. My benefits run out next month and we're not going to last another six months if I don't find something. I made the max benefits for our state, and we got $20 a month in food stamps.
I'm sorry to everyone that is in the same boat or similar, to anyone stuck working because you can't afford to leave. I hope you all know you matter.
