Living in Hudson Valley and working in NYC

I’m an apprentice and will be moving to the Hudson Valley to be near family - somewhere in Ulster, Duchess, or Orange county. I will be a journeyman by the time we move out there, having done exclusively interior systems work (metal stud, finish, doors, etc).

Wanted to know if any drywall guys in local 279 make the commute down to NYC to work. Is it hard to get a job down there, and if you do is it a one time thing or can you make a career commuting down?

I’m factoring this into my decision of where to buy a house. The rate is so much better down there it seems like it would be worthwhile to live near a train station.
