The Substance/Critical Thinking

This morning, I was reflecting on how both the release of the substance and the surrounding discourse have revealed a serious lack of critical thinking skills. I’m genuinely shocked by how many people take the film at face value (e.g., thinking they have separate consciences, not realizing that sue killing Elisabeth was an act of self-hatred, etc). The film says that they are one probably almost 10 times it’s absolutely baffling to me

I honestly think the director did it intentionally. It’s a direct reflection of a world not capable of thinking critically – that is, one that values women solely for their looks and then discards them

Apologies if this comes off mean or pretentious, that isn’t my intention. I just don’t think the meaning of the movie was really that hard to get!! I genuinely believe excessive social media consumption is ruining people’s ability to mentally engage with things and it’s very disheartening
