Would You Use a Tesla for Uber Driving?

I recently started using my Tesla with FSD to drive for Uber, and it’s been an interesting experience so far. I’m only two days in, doing UberX rides, and I’ve already encountered a mix of reactions from passengers. Some people are curious, asking how it works and whether I trust it. Others think it's super cool, almost like riding in a car from the future. Then there are those who are skeptical, saying things like, “So you just sit there and make money without doing anything?” A few have even pulled out their phones to record the experience, probably to show their friends or post online.

Right now, my earnings are around $25–$30 per hour, which honestly feels a bit underwhelming. Thankfully, I currently have access to free Supercharging, which helps with costs, but once that ends, I’m not sure if the numbers will still make sense. The whole idea of using FSD for Uber is exciting, but also kind of frustrating—it's not as profitable as I hoped. I was driving around downtown on my first day and noticed an Uber driver using a truck, which made me wonder how different vehicle choices affect earnings.

A big factor in all of this is the future of AI and autonomous driving. I heard that starting in June, Austin will begin rolling out Cybercab, Tesla’s robotaxi service. If Tesla’s vision of a fully autonomous ride-hailing fleet becomes reality, human Uber drivers could be in serious trouble. It’s hard to predict how quickly that will happen, but AI is advancing fast, and we all have to figure out what role we’ll play in this new world.

For now, I’m sticking with UberX and seeing where this goes. I’m curious—would you use a Tesla for Uber driving? Or do you think the whole thing is just a losing battle against AI?
