People who want humanity to go extinct
I've read some comments under my last post about people who want humanity to die out, and I'm surprised at how unconvinced I am. I thought you could do better.
People who want humanity to go extinct rely on subjective moral judgments that contradict the objective processes of nature and evolution. Nature operates on principles of survival, adaptation, and reproduction, none of which require moral justification. Humanity's existence is not a matter of moral deserving but of evolutionary success. Their morality is not absolute, and humanity’s right to exist is rooted in its capacity to adapt. Yes, I get that they don't want to live anymore because the world sucks, they're miserable, and injustice happens, but that's just how it is. There are good parts and bad parts. Our job is to figure out how to live better, figure out why things are the way they are (science, answering the big questions), etc. We are special because we have intelligence, and we could potentially figure out what this is all about. Yes, there might be other species we don't know of, but we can't be certain. That's what we're trying to figure out. Our curiosity gives us the drive to continue. It's there for a reason. If they don't want to stay, they should go and leave it to those who are willing to stay in this messed-up world.
No one can fully understand the consequences of humanity’s continued existence or extinction. Claiming that humanity "should" die out assumes knowledge of all future outcomes, which no one possesses.
Eventually, we will die anyway, and we'll see whether we've figured things out or not.
Nature is not a moral agent. Predation, disease, and death exist everywhere in the animal kingdom, yet no species willingly opts for extinction. Humans choosing to end themselves goes against the fundamental drive of life.
Besides, suffering and being aware of reality are literally what make us stronger and more adaptable. Without suffering, we won't evolve.
