Perverts is strangely beautiful
This album is hypnotic
I knew we were getting an ambient/drone album and I was kinda scared at first. My only dive into music like that was Wulven’s „I have seen the end and its beautiful“ Album which I did find myself deeply fascinated but confused by.
Now my experience when listening to Perverts is interesting. I may have listened to it in the best setting. I went on an midnight walk through my empty village took a detour through the woods and went back home. The opening was gorgeous with the „nearer my god to thee“ I knew this was going to be insane. It took me a bit to actually get into the sound. When I was in the woods having someone tell me I love you a million times felt weirldy comforting. But only when I was out of the woods „Onanist“ started playing. This is where the Album truly started hitting me in the best way. „Pulldrone“ literally pulled me in and I walked for 15 minutes with my mouth agape, will I listen to that song again I don’t know tbh. The rest of the album just made me feel like floating tbh. Time just passed by as I was walking and I felt weirdly at peace. And when amber waves ended playing I cried.
My opinion on this album is weird. I love it but I think this is more a full album experience, which is a popular opinion I feel like. What I don’t like is people saying this is the most Ethel cain album ever. It kinda discredits the other albums and the Ep. Every Album is uniquely Ethel and shows her experience and growth in music. This is a beautifully crafted piece of art just like the other projects and if someone doesn’t think its for them thats fine in my opinion. You don’t have to love everything an artist does. I personally fell in love with her vocals and instrumentals back when Inbred graced my ears. This album isn’t that for me but its an evolution and something different. She isn’t weeding fake fans out she is doing the type of music she wants which is rare and I can appreciate that eventhough I don’t love every song. Yet still I find myself listening to the project over and over and that is artistry in my opinion making your listeners experience something new. This is not my type of sound usually but when I listen to it the world changes for 90 minutes and that is why I love Ethel.
