Thoughts After Rewatch: Berties Mom + Mary Ruining Ediths Weddings

So I've just finished my fifth or sixth rewatch of Downton Abbey (no point in continuing to count tbh lol), and I've also just discovered this Reddit community so I now have people to talk about this with.

  1. Bertie's mom seemed extremely entitled. For someone who was the mom of a formerly penniless land agent, she seems snobbish. Not just like she's a strict and tough mom but you would've thought she'd lived in the castle her entire life the way she was acting. Rewatching the finale, and I don't like her attitude, even if her concerns were valid.

  2. I'm so glad Julian Fellowes decided to give Edith a happy ending (thank you to the woman who was following him around that bookstore) but does anyone realize how Mary botched both of her proposals? First Sir Anthony (which was understandable after Edith confessed to writing the Turkish embassy) and then to Bertie, which I think infuriated everyone. After she ruined Edith's first opportunity at marriage, she got married to Matthew. After she ruined Edith's second opportunity at marriage, she married Henry. I still don't understand how or why Edith showed up to that wedding. Either way, it worked out in the end for Edith, but still. That's so messed up.
