When removing a player from an online game, is it worth going into why?
I recently decided to start up an online game and one of the players is... Fine I guess? We have played five sessions and they reliably turn up on time, pay attention and role play OK. It is pretty clear to me that our play styles don't match up well and so I will be removing them after next session.
I was telling my friend this and she said that if I made up my mind about removing the player then there is no point going into details and giving reasons. All that will happen is that it will devolve into an argument.
Now I am a little confused and not sure how much information to give.
How much detail would you go into in a case like this?
For context:
Their backstory is far too complex for me to use and completely disconnected from the setting. When I gave them ways to connect it to the setting they just didn't.
Their character is pretty weak in combat and a pain to balance for.
They are a self-absorbed player whose character doesn't really have much connection to the plot or other players.
We don't vibe as people all that well.
I find them rather sulky and I assume they are not enjoying the game very much anyway.
