How to make a successful offer on a home

Hi yall!

I am a first time home buyer very new to the scene. Me and my partner have started the process of inspecting and making offers on properties.

Our first few we treated as a "practice" to get used to the feeling of selecting numbers. We purposefully would offer under the asking price in order to lower our chances of being chosen.

Now that the whole process is less anxiety inducing, we are ready to try in earnest, and have found a property that we love.

The asking price is about 25k over what the property is listed as being worth by "on the house.com". We want to make an offer that will be accepted, but dont have too much wiggle room in our budget for this particular house (its on the upper end of what we are preapproved for). What are some ways you can increase the chance of success with your offer on a home, without going OTT with the total offer amount?

I have been thinking about putting a big chunk of our deposit down as the initial deposit to come off as serious, but I dont know if that is smart...

Are there any ways we can play to the seller/agent that will increase our chances of success? Is buying at the max end of our budget a recipe for disaster?

Thanks!
