What stingy things did your parents do?

My Dad, despite earning a very good salary, was always so stingy. If we ever went to visit a beauty spot etc, he would refuse to pay the parking fees as they were a "rip off". This would inevitably result in us driving around for a 30 mins trying to find a random place to park, and then having to carry all our picnic stuff 2 miles down some busy A-road in the sweltering heat.

One time we had a BBQ and he refused to buy firelighters because "he didn't need them". Most of the meat had also sold out, and there was only "Finest" or branded meat left. He said we would have to have a vegetarian BBQ instead. Unsurprisingly, the BBQ didn't light properly, and we ended up eating only half cooked vegetables for lunch.
